Dear Singapore Alumni family,
It is now just over 100 days (119 to be precise) since the new team took the helm of the pan IIM alumni movement from Oct 11.
We started just before Deepavali. And it is now just before the Chinese New Year. So, it is an appropriate moment to take stock.
We set ourselves some bold ambitions at the outset: to engage the community within and without, and to make the movement fit-for-purpose in a digital world. We also decided that for the first 100 days, it was not ideas, but on-the-ground actions that mattered.
Much has happened since then.
Our digital presence and outreach through the new site went live – and over 400 members have registered for the same. The great news – we are seeing much more engagement from the younger alumni.
Engaged High Commissioner Kumaran and Piyush Gupta in an engaging IIMCHAT https://www.iimalumni.sg/newsroom/news/IIMChat-In-Conversation-with-Periasamy-Kumaran-Indian-High-Commissioner-to-Singapore.dz
Conducted a highly engaging Quiz competition between the institutes. For the first time, a cross-institute team featured … and won https://www.iimalumni.sg/newsroom/news/Winners-of-the-first-Pan-IIM-Quiz-Contest-Singapore-decided-by-a-tie-break.dz
Started an all-new format IIMPULSE and a great new idea to engage with Singapore – #WhatsYourSQ. It was conceived and executed within 30 days. The level of innovation and participation was heart-warming (over 100 alumni participated.) Some of the activities were really about being a force for good. https://www.iimalumni.sg/newsroom/news/IIM-alums-on-a-voyage-of-discovering-Singapore-as-part-of-IIMPULSE-WhatsYourSQ.dz
With regard to IIMPULSE, we would like to announce the winner of the campaign – the maximum votes went to the “Feed a Thousand” team! As you may recall, this group volunteered at ‘Krsna’s Free Meals’ to prepare nutritious meals for migrants. All team members will receive a Yantra meal voucher for SGD25. Congratulations!
As I mentioned in my first letter, our goal as a community is to prepare the ground (here in Singapore) to be as receptive for the next generation of global business leaders from India, as it was for us.
This means that we need to be “builders”
Of the IIM brand, not just individual institutes
Of meaningful engagement, not just social interactions
Of societal connections, not just business networks
Of doing well for others, not just for ourselves
But we need your help and your involvement too. A community is a community only if the members engage. We are all members of the community, not customers. It cannot be only up to the committee.
So please do your part.

Get involved with ideas.
Attend the virtual and real-world events.
Next week, we enter the year of the Metal Ox. Chinese culture tells us that this will be a year when work will get rewarded, and those who will get lucky will be the ones that will make a considerable effort. Much like the Ox is very hardworking and methodical.
The world is a more hopeful place than it was a few months ago.
Let us hope it gets better.
Gong xi fa cai to you and your families.
